Filterless Air Purifiers Clean With Ions For A More Economic Operation

Filterless air purifiers apply either negative ions or even ozone to take out pollutants from indoor air. The air purifiers act on the 1st principle disperse negatively charged ions cleaning the air. Alternative varieties of filterless air purifiers exist including purifiers that generate ozone to destroy bacteria, mold & mildew.

Filterless ion-based air purifiers disperse negatively charged ions into the surrounding air which react with the positively charged dust particles causing the dust particles to cling to a metal blade/grid in the purifier. The ozone-based air purifies the air through moderate levels of ozone. Ozone oxidizes the pollutants swimming in air.

The smaller particles within our air are right at the top with regards to being hazardous for our respiratory systems. Particles causing allergies, asthma & such respiratory problems are normally 0.01 to 0.3 microns in size. So microscopic they could easily pass straight through a filter Rendering the filter based air purifiers ineffective at purifying the air. Filterless air purifiers are especially good at fighting contaminants in our air, both microscopic and big!

Due to filterless air purifiers not containing any filters it makes them cheaper and also simpler in maintenance. Filterless air purifiers are quite efficacious in neutralizing and eradicating common indoor air contaminants like pollen & dust. As well as this they help remove cooking smells, smoke, mold/mildew, chemical odors, pet dander and many other such nasty odors.

Because filterless air purifiers don’t contain filters or even fans, they are extremely silent when in operation. Plus you are saved from the hassle of having to regularly clean filters or fans. These air purifiers are quite energy-efficient too saving you some money down the line.

Be extremely careful when picking your filterless air purifier though as they incorporate electrical systems in their operation.

Poor Sales of Ionic Breeze Air Purifier

Sales at Brookstone and at Sharper Image have been falling dramatically of late. For eight weeks ending June 25, Brookstone total sales fell 10.8 percent compared with the previous year. Sharper Image reported several months of poor sales with a 9 percent decrease in June.

Sharper Image’s downturn in sales started just after it began getting bad press regarding its Ionic Breeze air purifier. Consumer Reports magazine wrote the Ionic Breeze fails to significantly clean air & may also expose users to potentially harmful ozone levels. Brookstone, which has its own ionic air purifier, may be experiencing the loss of sales due simply to association.

10 Top Tips When Choosing An Air Purifier

If you are looking at getting an air purifier for your home or office there are a few things you must consider. Here is a brief list of ten points you should note when comparing air purifiers:

  1. Purification Effectiveness (24/7 Cleaning)
how effective is the air purifier at circulating air so that it can effectively clean all of the air in a room. Many air purifiers are kept in a corner of a room therefore only really cleaning a small area of the rooms air.
  2. Method of Purifying Air
Some air purifiers are majorly disadvantaged because they utilize a motor to suck air into the filter, an unnatural attempt at defying science and physics. Other air purifiers such as the PuriFan rely on high and low air pressure to draw air into the system and out through the filters which results in air that does not leave the system until it has been completely filtered.
  3. Cubic Footage Covered & Cost per Cubic Foot
Many of the cheaper air purifiers are actually costly when it comes to cost per cubic foot cleaned in relation to their price, or the true measure of an air purifiers value.
  4. Cost of Replacement Parts & Maintenance
Air purifiers can often cost more in replacement parts in a one year than the initial purchase price. The filters usually last about 3 months, & cost around $20-$210 for each separate filter, plus with some air purifier systems you will need 2 or 3 filters for just a single unit.
  5. Electricity Costs
Today’s rising energy costs mean its very important you research each air purifiers power consumption levels as they can have a tendency to be pretty power hungry!
  6. Noise
A lot of air purifiers contain a motor to draw air in through the filters.. obviously this motor can be very loud. Some air purifiers have been designed in such a way to lower the noise they create and some even adopt a whole new technology. If you are going to be sleeping with, working around or generally just having your air purifier near you most of the time this is something you are most definitely going to want to take in to account.
  7. Location & Size
Many air purifiers are large, obtrusive and generally do not look like something you would want on display in your home or office. However, there are some that are actually pleasant on the eye having been created by good product designers. The reason this can be an issue is that if you ‘hide’ your air purifier out of sight, due to you not wanting it to be on display, then you are also reducing it’s effectiveness as an air purifier (see tip 1).
  8. Does It Actually Work
This may sound obvious but does it actually work? …or put another way, does the air purifier do its job properly? How well an air purifier works can be directly related to how it successful it is able to circulate air round the room drawing in as much of the ‘older’ dirty air as it can rather than re-cleaning the same air it has just cleaned.
  9. Warranty
Check how long the warranty is for. Most air purifiers should have a guarantee for one-two years or more.
  10. Adaptability
Most air purifiers are designed for a one problem in particular. Some other air purifiers, however, are able to be modified to address a specific air quality problem by using specialized filters for certain air quality problems (i.e. smoke, allergies, dust, pollen, smoke, and various gases).

Unique Ceiling Fan Air Purifier

In the United States it is estimated that there are around one billion ceiling fans circulating the air across the country in homes and business offices. Whilst ceiling fans have mass appeal, look great and make you feel cool on a hot day, the air they circulate is usually full of dust, pollen, smoke, mold, animal odors and many more nasties you wouldn’t like to see floating about your personal space!

Well..

not so anymore, welcome the “Purifan System” (what a name!). This unique technological innovation cross-breed of air purifier meets ceiling fan is an attractive and highly effective air cleaner product.

The Purifan System is a circular, self-contained unit that totally replaces the paddles of a normal ceiling fan. The system has a 3-stage filtration process, a pre-filter, a charcoal filter and a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter. These all combine to create a very effective removal system of unwanted pollutants in your air space. The Purifan utilises the natural low and high air pressure in your home/office to pull up dirty air and recirculate the fresh air in a rate of 2,000 cubic feet of air per minute. This equates to refreshing the air of a 20×20 foot room every 90 seconds!

While your standard air purifiers are often effective at cleaning your air well, they are known for being very energy hungry and yet are only able to move a small amount of air compared to a typical ceiling fan. The Purifan uses the same energy, possibly a little less, than a standard ceiling fan, frees up your floor space, looks a lot more attractive than most air purifiers and is also a lot quieter than most to boot.

The Purifan currently is selling at around $359.95 and is available in four different colours. Visit www.puifan.com for more information and for details on how you can order one.

Why Do We Need Air Purifiers?

Air Purifiers are becoming increasingly important in our homes and offices today…

Because of the ever increasing energy costs, People are now sealing their homes and buildings with better windows, insulation, & moldings.

When homes and buildings are sealed, contaminants can increase, like mold. As the air passes throughout your home, the mold - along with chemicals given off by paints, glues, cleaners, pesticides, particle board furniture, and of course, cigarette smoke - is all picked up and then circulated throughout the building without ever actually being “cleaned”.

Based on data from the World Health Organization, forty percent of all buildings are a serious hazard to our health because of their contaminated air.

Symptoms induced by indoor air pollutants can include…

  • Eye and skin irritation
  • Lung irritation
  • Nose and throat discomfort
  • Fatigue
  • Unpleasantness from offensive odors

Did you know that…

  • U.S. EPA tests have shown that indoor levels of air pollutants can be two to five times higher than the outdoor levels.
  • Indoor pollutant levels can reach one hundred times that of outdoor pollutant levels because we effectively “seal” our houses even more from the elements over the winter months.
  • High levels of indoor air pollutants is of particular concern because the majority of people spend about 90 percent of their time indoors.

So what can we do to help? …Air Purifiers not only remove particles from the air, but will safely and effectively destroy bacteria, mold, viruses and many more contaminants. Getting a quality air purifier for your home or office can dramatically increase your quality of health by simply cleaning the area you live in and the air you breathe.

How Are Air Purifiers Tested And Is It A Thorough Test?

Many publications and on line sources are happy to recommend air purifiers for you to buy. Unfortunately, most of these recommendations seem to be built on factors like appearance, features and cost of replacement filters. These criteria could be more crucial if only all air purifiers worked equally as well to clear the air of allergens like dust and smoke. Based on data from the only 2 organizations that check out air purifiers thoroughly, performance varies greatly, so performance results are especially significant in this category. Consumer Reports magazine and a retailer, Air Purifiers U.s., are both the only sources that try out how well air purifiers eradicate airborne allergens. Unfortunately, these sources test air purifiers in vastly different ways, and they do not always check out the same models. Consumer Reports does virtually all the controlled testing in a sealed try out room with precisely measured numbers of dust and smoke injected into the chamber. Air purifiers are then evaluated on how well they eradicate particles at set time intervals running at both high and low speeds. Noise level is as well assessed.

Always make sure you get your product reviews from a reputable source that test air purifiers on more than just their appearance and feature set.

What Exactly Do Air Purifiers Clean From Our Air?

Top air purifiers are able to clean the surrounding air of the following:

  • Dust, pollen, allergens
  • Pet dander, dust mites
  • Harmful bacteria, viruses
  • Airborne contaminants
  • Pet odor removal: dog, cat, etc.
  • Mold / mildew removal
  • Cigar / cigarette smoke removal

So you can see that there are many reasons to own an air purifier and improve your home/office air quality. Owning an air purifier is essential for helping improve allergy / asthma symptoms especially if you live in a home with pets, smokers or an abundance of dust.
