If you are looking at getting an air purifier for your home or office there are a few things you must consider. Here is a brief list of ten points you should note when comparing air purifiers:

1. Purification Effectiveness (24/7 Cleaning)
   how effective is the air purifier at circulating air so that it can effectively clean all of the air in a room. Many air purifiers are kept in a corner of a room therefore only really cleaning a small area of the rooms air.
2. Method of Purifying Air
   Some air purifiers are majorly disadvantaged because they utilize a motor to suck air into the filter, an unnatural attempt at defying science and physics. Other air purifiers such as the PuriFan rely on high and low air pressure to draw air into the system and out through the filters which results in air that does not leave the system until it has been completely filtered.
3. Cubic Footage Covered & Cost per Cubic Foot
   Many of the cheaper air purifiers are actually costly when it comes to cost per cubic foot cleaned in relation to their price, or the true measure of an air purifiers value.
4. Cost of Replacement Parts & Maintenance
   Air purifiers can often cost more in replacement parts in a one year than the initial purchase price. The filters usually last about 3 months, & cost around $20-$210 for each separate filter, plus with some air purifier systems you will need 2 or 3 filters for just a single unit.
5. Electricity Costs
   Today’s rising energy costs mean its very important you research each air purifiers power consumption levels as they can have a tendency to be pretty power hungry!
6. Noise
   A lot of air purifiers contain a motor to draw air in through the filters.. obviously this motor can be very loud. Some air purifiers have been designed in such a way to lower the noise they create and some even adopt a whole new technology. If you are going to be sleeping with, working around or generally just having your air purifier near you most of the time this is something you are most definitely going to want to take in to account.
7. Location & Size
   Many air purifiers are large, obtrusive and generally do not look like something you would want on display in your home or office. However, there are some that are actually pleasant on the eye having been created by good product designers. The reason this can be an issue is that if you ‘hide’ your air purifier out of sight, due to you not wanting it to be on display, then you are also reducing it’s effectiveness as an air purifier (see tip 1).
8. Does It Actually Work
   This may sound obvious but does it actually work? …or put another way, does the air purifier do its job properly? How well an air purifier works can be directly related to how it successful it is able to circulate air round the room drawing in as much of the ‘older’ dirty air as it can rather than re-cleaning the same air it has just cleaned.
9. Warranty
   Check how long the warranty is for. Most air purifiers should have a guarantee for one-two years or more.
10. Adaptability
    Most air purifiers are designed for a one problem in particular. Some other air purifiers, however, are able to be modified to address a specific air quality problem by using specialized filters for certain air quality problems (i.e. smoke, allergies, dust, pollen, smoke, and various gases).
